Arrival

Normal student arrival begins with bus riders at 7:15 am and ends with the dismissal bell at 7:45 am. The first class of the day begins at 7:50 am.

Once students enter the front doors they are to turn off and put away any electronic devices including phones, earbuds, and other electronics.  Students should also remove all headwear that is not a part of a religious head covering.

Upon arrival, all students proceed to their designated area unless they have a pass or permission to go elsewhere. Students who would like to see a teacher before school should get permission prior to arrival.

  • 6th grade students meet in the West Gym, east side bleachers on the south end

  • 7th grade students meet in the West Gym in the east bleachers on the north end

  • 8th grade students meet in the West Gym in the west bleachers

Students are to sit quietly socializing with friends, studying, or reading. Students are not to have any electronic devices out while in the bleachers without permission from a supervisor. 

Students who want to quietly study or complete homework may go to the Commons. Students in the commons are to sit silently to study. Students are to spread out and may only study with another student with permission from a supervisor.

Arrival Groups

Band Students - Students may enter no earlier than 6:45 am at the front or athletic entrances.  Students should go directly to the band room. When band ends at 7:30 am, students should proceed to their grade level holding area. 

Bus Riders: All buses drop off at the main entrance between 7:15 and 7:30 am. All bus riders should enter through the main entrance and proceed to their grade level holding area 

Car Riders - All car riders should arrive between 7:30 and 7:45 am. NO CARS ARE TO BE IN THE FRONT DRIVE PRIOR TO 7:40 AM.

All Car Riders should drop off at the athletic entrance in the back parking lot.

State law prohibits the use of mobile phones in school zones unless you are using a hand's free device. For the safety of students, guests, and other drivers, please only use your mobile device in hands free modes and please use caution that you are not distracted while driving.

We ask that parents pull along the curb to drop off their children and that parents carefully pull away from the curb to leave.  We ask that families avoid pulling in between the cars to drop off children and that everyone have patience as children safely exit vehicles. We also ask that students be ready to exit quickly from the vehicle and that families do their best to expedite the drop off quickly and safely. All car riders are to then enter and go to the appropriate grade level holding area. 

Bicycles - Students are encouraged to ride bicycles in good weather.  We ask that all bike riders practice safe rules of the road and do not ride on the sidewalks near the building. We ask that when riding to school, students stay to the side of the street staying safely away from vehicles and pedestrians. All bicycles should be parked and securely locked in the bike racks at the north west corner of the school.  Bike riders may enter through either the main or athletic entrance then proceed to the appropriate grade level holding area. 

Walkers & Skaters - Walkers and skaters should plan to arrive no earlier than 7:30 am and may enter through either the main or athletic entrances.  Skaters must remove skates prior to entering the building.  Skateboards are to be carried inside the school.  Both skates and skateboards must be stowed safely in a locker during the day.  Upon entering, all walkers and skaters are to proceed to the appropriate grade level holding area.

Dismissal

On a typical day, school dismissal is a fast and efficient event. Our normal dismissal time begins at 2:15 pm. 

During the year, we have special days when dismissal times may change: 

Early Dismissal: Approximately once a month, we have an early dismissal day for professional development. On early dismissal days, MJHS dismisses at 10:55 am. Students must ride their regular bus routes unless other arrangements are made in advance.  Families who do not ride buses should make other arrangements for their children to get home from school. 

Emergency Dismissal: Should there be a reason for school to dismiss due to an emergency, families will receive word through Skylert the precise time that students will be dismissed and any particular information regarding the dismissal.  

Dismissal Groups

Bus Riders - Bus riders are dismissed at 2:15 pm. Students should get their belongings and head directly to their bus.  All buses load in the back parking lot. The buses line up in two rows in the same order every day.  We do not put the students on the bus. It is the student's responsibility to find and board their bus for the ride home. Buses leave at 2:20 pm. 

No cars are allowed in the back parking lot between 2:00 and 2:20 pm when the buses exit the lot. 

Car Riders - Car riders may exit from any door of the school.  We allow parking in the following areas: 

  • The drive in front of the school - We ask that families park along the inner curb and not block the drive.

  • The east side of Kirkstone Way facing north - The village does not allow parking on the west side of Kirkstone Way facing south. Violators may be ticketed

  • The south side of Lindsay Lane facing East - We do not allow any parking on either side of the street on Lindsay Lane from Kirkstone to the exit of our front drive because of bus traffic

  • The north side of Cambridge Court

  • Cars may enter the back parking lot after the buses have exited.

We suggest that families discuss where you plan to park and meet for rides.

We ask that drivers use extreme care during dismissal time.

Walkers/Bike Riders/Skaters - Students who walk, ride bikes, or skate home may leave from any door.  We ask that students obey the rules of the road and travel home with care.  We suggest that walkers use the sidewalks and all cross walks as they travel home.  Bike riders and skaters should take care not to ride on the sidewalks near the building and that on their way home they are careful not to interfere with traffic.
