Grace and coaches at state golf meet

The 2023 golf season has come to a close. Mokena Jr. High School had 22 golfers on the team this year and had a new home course at Green Garden Golf Course. The golfers have been working hard, practicing and playing since the end of July.

Last week, five male students and one female student represented Mokena Jr. High at the IESA Golf Sectional Meets in Pontiac, IL. The five boys were: Ethan Anderson, Emmett Fitzgibbons, Aidan Egan, Jacob Soldan, and Jacob Labriola. Ethan Anderson was the best finisher in 23rd place.

Grace Chandler was the lone girl golfer at the Sectional Meet and she did an amazing job shooting a 93, which was good for 3rd place. Her score also qualified her for the IESA State Golf Meet at Metamora Fields Golf Club in Metamora, IL on September 14th.

At the State Meet, Grace shot her best round of golf this season and ended with an 86. Her 86 placed her 12th at the State Meet out of 77 golfers.

Grace has been golfing for about one year and said her skills are greatly improved. “It was a lot of fun. It was pretty cold when we first got there, but once it warmed up it was a beautiful day. The course was nice and everyone I met was super nice,“ Grace said of her time at State.

Grace hopes to continue playing golf during high school at Lincoln-Way Central.

Mokena Jr. High and the District are beyond proud of Grace’s accomplishment! Way to represent the Meteors, Grace!
