Twenty-four 6th, 7th, and 8th graders from Mokena Jr. High’s Drama Club recently competed in the annual IESA Speech Contest held at MJHS. The contest featured over 60 students from local junior high and middle schools: Hadley Middle School in Homer Glen, Martino and Liberty Jr. High Schools in New Lenox, Manhattan Jr. High School in Manhattan, and Noonan Jr. High Academy in Mokena.
The contest was a wonderful way for students to showcase their hard work and demonstrate their communicative skills while competing in a variety of categories. Students from MJHS competed in the regular duet acting, solo acting, team improv, and small group acting.
Additional categories were storytelling, improv solo and duet acting, and original script individual and duet.
MJHS students received 32 first place rankings and four second place rankings. Four students received a Judges’ Choice Award, the most esteemed award that they can receive! Congratulations to Margo Kornmuller & Scarlett Lea and Peyton Fitzgerald & Jaclyn Verde on receiving the Judges’ Choice Awards!
