In Social Studies, 8th graders read "Footholds in the Pacific", learning about how the US acquired Hawaii. Students storyboarded to show what they’ve learned!

Today is National Special Education Day! We honor and thank all of our Special Education teachers and staff who guide, support and provide necessary services to our students. We celebrate today as December 2 is the anniversary of the nation’s first federal special education law, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

Two weeks away from the Mokena PTA Santa Breakfast!

The 8th grade ELA classes worked together to scour the building for 10 poems and analyze their elements in a scavenger hunt. In small groups, they located the poems and looked at rhyme scheme, rhythm, figurative language, and type. Choosing between two options for each poem, they tore off the tag that corresponded with their answer and added it to their collection, returning to homebase to find out if they were right. It was a fun and exciting way to end the week before Thanksgiving Break!

One week away!

Friendly reminder: no school next week!

As you may be aware, the school district has begun searching for a superintendent to take office on July 1, 2025. In the next few weeks, the board of education will begin interviewing candidates and is seeking interested parents and community members to participate in a portion of the interview process.
On the evening of December 11, the board will host a series of interviews with three candidates which will include an opportunity for teachers, staff, parents, and community members to be part of the process. We are seeking 6 parents who currently have students in District 159 schools and 6 community members who do not have students in District 159 schools to participate in this interview.
If you are interested, please fill out the Google form found below. The Google link will be available until December 2 at 9:00 a.m. Persons selected as one of the 6 parents or 6 community participants will be notified, as well as anyone who was not selected. After the December 11 interviews, the Board of Education will then interview two final candidates to determine the finalist.
Thank you for your interest as the board moves forward with this important decision.
