September is National Attendance Awareness Month! Did you know the state of Illinois considers students who miss 10% or more of the school year chronically absent? This includes both unexcused and excused absences. Chronic absenteeism counts towards 20% of each of our school's state report card designation because being at school is that important! We know sometimes challenges come up like illness or family emergencies, but when possible, please make school a priority and encourage your child to be here each day. Thank you for partnering with us; together we can make sure every student is present, engaged, and on the path to success!

Connect and share your input with Superintendent Gurney at one of the upcoming Community Listening Sessions. We hope to see you there!

The Mokena PTA has created a central form for parents to sign-up to volunteer for their various events throughout the year. Please visit https://bit.ly/PTAVolunteers25?r=qr to see what opportunities are available. As a reminder, PTA membership is not required to volunteer.

We are cheering on our baseball team as they play for the regional championship tonight! You got this boys!

We deeply value and appreciate the ongoing partnership and collabroation with Lincoln-Way Central! Each month, a different department at the junior high has the opportunity to either visit LWC or have LWC staff members visit us to observe classes and articulate about programming. Today, we hosted three staff members from LWC in our PE and Tech & Design classes!

Happy National IT Professionals Day to our technology department! Today we honor the IT professionals who do the critical but often unseen work to keep our networks, devices, and applications running for our students and staff!

Our Meteor Cross Country Team had a great meet this weekend at the Manhattan Invite! Congratulations to our runners! (Not pictured- the many girls ribbons as awards were handed out later in the day.)

Save the date for our annual "Volley for the Cure"! Spirit wear for the event must be purchased by September 20th at https://mokenavolleycure25.itemorder.com/shop/home/ .

Early on in the season, Lincoln-Way Central hosted the Mokena and Martino softball teams for a game. The players had a chance to play together on their future field as future teammates!

September is Attendance Awareness Month. Did you know absenteeism in the first month of school can predict poor attendance throughout the school year. Half the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school. Together, let's make every day count!

Ever wonder what happens on an Early Release Day after our students go home? This is dedicated time for professional development related to school and district goals. Yesterday our schools had training on our new K-5 social studies program and 6-8 SEL program. We truly appreciate the time to grow, collabroate, and learn together!

Our MES hallways are full of red, white, and blue in observance of Patriot Day. Today in unity, we honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001. We are grateful for the bravery and selflessness of our first responders, the strength of the survivors, and the resilience of our nation. #PatriotDay

All the feels today on the first day of Kinderbuddies! Our 8th graders and kindergarteners had a wonderful morning getting to know eachother with an all about me craft and the creation of a buddy handshake! We can't wait to see these impactful relationships grow throughout the year!

Don't forget...

Our 8th grade scientists met with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as an extension of their "Weather and Climate" unit. Thank you to Mrs. Baltzer for coordinating this experience for our students! You can read more about their virtual meeting at https://www.mokena159.org/article/2405357 .

September is Attendance Awareness Month, recognizing that regular school attendance is essential to student achievement. Did you know that missing just 2 days per month (10% of the school year) makes it harder for students to keep up and succeed?

🥎 Our softball team played hard against Liberty yesterday! Go Meteors! 🥎

Good luck to our golfers at the IESA Sectional Meets today and tomorrow!

Our 6th graders jumped right in with their first activity inTechnology & Design class. They had a group design challenge without having seen the design process yet. The goal was to design, build, test, and modify an orthosis that stabilizes the ankle and foot. Then they learned about the design process and reflected on how they could improve their own design process using their new learning in the future!

🎶 Our Marching Band did a great job performing in today's Frankfort Fall Festival Parade! 🎶
